Timeline Events

I'm hoping someone could give me some advice pertaining to a timeline problem. I have the Platinum 9 edition and have noticed that there are no events on my timeline as far as pictures go to edit them. They play through the video preview but I cannot see them on my timeline. I know it's something dumb on my part, but I sure need to know what is wrong and how to change it.
Everything else is fine. Thank you so much in advance....

If you can play your timeline and see it on the preview window, there is video on the timeline. You must have the switch to view thumbnails on the timeline turnewd off in preferences..

Thanks for the quick response. I'm still having an issue at finding the thumbnail setting in preferences. Could you tell me which tab to hit in preferences? I've had this software for about a week and have had a lot of success except for this issue. In some ways I'm still trying to find my way around. Thanks!!
