Timeline, Scrub, "IN & OUT" Marker Questions

I wish the timeline had an index marker with a handle on it. That way I could scroll through my project simply by dragging the index marker. It's also very hard to tell where you are in the project without one!

How do you scroll through your project (either in the timeline or timmer) without creating "in" and "out" points? Sometimes I want to keep the selection I have but just quickly reference another point on the timeline and scrub through it. But what inevitably happens is that when I click on the other point and start scrubbing, new "in" and "out" points are created. Very frustrating. I know I can use the arrow keys and the J, K, L key scrub. But I don't want to have to do it that way. Is there any other way around this? Am I missing something?

You can glance at the current time code in the upper left of the interface.

Yes, Vegas creates a new region as you drag, however, it remembers the last several regions and easily goes there when you hit the backspace key.

You can not srub/scroll through the timeline the normal way in Vegas, not yet at least,
I hope SF/Sony adds an option for it later. And subclips that would be nice too!

We've discussed the scrubbing issue just in the last week, and it seems a lot of people had opinions on it once it came up and SF seemed agreeable to the suggestions. Perhaps in the next version we'll see something better.

Hint:

It pays to read the manual and online help before saying Vegas can't do something.

....and the Contour Shuttle Pro is perfect for scrubbing...and many other things!

The "Collapse loop region when no time selection is present" checkbox in the preferences was a partial answer to my problem. I still can't drag the darn cursor thing, but at least the time selection goes away.

Options>Preferences>Editing> "Collapse loop region when no time selection is present" Checkbox.

Another workaround:

- Set markers ["m" key] at the in and out points of your selection;
- Scroll to wherever you want;
- Go back to your markers (you can right-mouse click and go to the Go To dialog);
- double-click between the markers to reselect your original selection.

Not ideal, but works.

.... or just hit the backspace key.
