Ok,
So i bought a brand new, "full tilt boogie" 4k 15" tablet/laptop (redneck term) aka HP Scepter 360 last year...and it sucked.
When I ran Vegas Studio 14, the way the program rendered itself and especially the menus was an absolute JOKE. The menus and popups were literally so teeny tiny on the 4k monitor built in to the laptop, I could not use the program- and others too. On average, the top menu bar in the program was about 1mm in size, literally. Some of the menu's buttons were the size of an ant's FOOT, no joke. After months of working on this issue with HP's "awesome" Indian tech gurus on the phone and having them tell me to "reboot the computer 4,021 times, reinstall windows, reinstall Vegas, update your laptop 200 times, power cycle", etc, they finally blamed the program and shut me down. Well, it's NOT Vegas, nor any other program- it was Windows 10 and their hardware combo. But I found the fix. And it will work on most all other apps with the same issue, like Livestream Producer, etc. BTW, none of the fixes I found on this forum actually worked. This one did, perfectly:
The problem is simple- your 4k card, stupid Windows 10, and the high DPI screen don't know what to do with apps like Vegas, and try to re-render the program menus wrong. You have to tell the machine to stop messing with it, and run it like a normal program, like Chrome.
REAL SOLUTION:
1) To start, go back into your machine's display properties, and reset any band aid settings with "scaling" you had to do already. This is NOT the proper way to fix this issue. Just put the computer in its natural display state and modes for the 4k screen. NO check boxes, just the regular resolution, scaling, etc.
2) Navigate to the "Vegas" program folder, in "Program Files x86" probably. Now, scroll down and find the vegasmoviestudio(pro).exe file, for whatever Vegas product you're using, etc. It might be labeled like vegasmoviestudioPE140.exe (or something similar). Whatever- it's gonna be the main .exe for Vegas. Now, right click on the file, and select "Properties". Under that menu box that comes up with 6 tabs or so, look for the "Compatability" tab. Under this tab, you'll find the magic solution. For me, it was checking "running as administrator", and then under "change high DPI settings", I clicked both boxes. And then, select the setting for "When I open this program", and "override high DPI behaviour", scaling performed by SYSTEM ENHANCED. THATS IT. If it's not exactly right, mess with the right combo until you get it.
There you have it. The program looks just like Chrome, or any other good looking program. I swear to god, for a month I almost threw this laptop off a building. NOBODY knew how to fix this BS, especially HP. The problem lies with the new 4k stuff, and lack of program integration. Basically, you will find the solution with some combination of options in this area until you get it right. Adjust and restart the program until it holds the proper settings all the way.
ENJOY!
