Tip for selecting a small scene selection

Most of you probably already know this, but I just happened on this tip tonight, thought I'd share...

I wanted to select about 3 seconds of an AVI file I downloaded. Normally I would put the clip in the trimmer and try to get the little 3 seconds I need from that.

But instead I clicked on the timeline near where the clip should start. I then arrow-keyed over to where it should be exactly.

Then I hold shift and right-arrow until it's selected (which is so small it barely shows up).

Then use the Ctrl+C to copy, move to an empty timeline and do a Ctrl+V to paste.

Done.

I know those command are normal Windows shortcuts, but I didn't realize until now that holding shift and arrowing over worked on this timeline.

Edit: and I know you can mouse-wheel the scene to stretch it out, which makes it easy too.

here's my favourite way which you might like to try:

place your cursor on the timeline where you want to place your clip;
open the video in trimmer
click on the start point where you want your clip, hit 'i' on your keyboard (for mark-in)
use the arrow keys to go to the point you want your clip to end. hit 'o' on keyboard (for mark-out)
then, 'a' on keyboad and it'll be placed on timeline.
