Tips for shooting high motion video?

Hi guys,
I'm just looking for some general tips on shooting high motion videos such as car races.
I'm interested in getting the right shutter speed, night mode settings, iris...
Also, does anyone knows if JVC GR-DVL820EA shoots in real 16:9 mode or the image is streched.
There are three options Cinema, Squeeze and S.Wide Mode available. The manual doesn't explain this very clear.

Thanks in advance,
Kind Regards,
AudioIvan

Well it'd be nice if you could up the frame rate but not on any cameras we can afford so the best tip I'd give is fast shutter speeds, that way if you want to slow things down you have less motion blur.

For fast motion shoot standard interlaced modes as well.

Using fast shutter speeds can cause the motion to become choppy, especially background movement during fast pans. I’ve gotten better results setting the shutter speed close to the frame rate, e.g. 1/60 sec for 60i. Set the iris with the assist of zebras if you have them; experience with your particular gear helps tremendously in getting good exposures.

Thanks guys,
that's what I've settled in for 1/50i normal, I'll try not to do too much paning.

You are right about the effect of fast shutter. Pretty well all the local sports footage is shot with very fast shutter and at PALs 25fps it does look very strobey. I'm told the reason for this though is so they can get good slomo and also good web delivery at lower frame rates. It really depends on whta 'look' you want and what you want to do with the footage.
I think the ultimate solution (and one that doesn't exist) is to shoot at 1/1000 sec at 100 fps. Then you can make it look like whatever you want in post.
