Tips for Shooting in Anamorphic 2:35:1

Hi, I want to shoot a small clip in 2:35:1 widescreen format, just as a study experiment.

I have gone through all the HD,HDV presets in Vegas 5, and realised that they are all 16:9, and not one of them resembling '2:35:1' wide screen aspect ratio.
So after collecting some '2:35:1 ' pics like from Star wars I could make my own preset for vegas which looks like '2:35:1' aspect ratio.

Because I am working with PAL Standard (720x576) I cant make the width more than '720 'px.
So my 'Anamorphic 2:35:1' Preset now is - 720 X 340.

Ok I got my Vegas setting, but now I have to shoot some stuf which is meant for that 'wide 'picture, so whats the best way to make my 'view finder resemble '2:35:1' on my camera ??, I must make a kind of a marking or something, ofcourse I could cover the top and bottom with some black tapes, but is there some other tric that one of you used??.
I am sure that Mr Lucas is also shooting with 16:9 and cropping it but what does he use as border guide lines for his view finder/lens?

(My Camera = Sony VX 2000)

Black tape on the outside LCD or a production monitor.

It would help resolution to at least add an anamorphic adapter, that's more like what Lucas used (masked off 16:9=1.77:1, or 1.85:1 depending on if film originated).

I think there was a thread, not sure if it was here or another forum, but it had to do with shooting in 16:9 "squeeze" mode *AND* using the century optics 16:9 lens. From what I recall when it was unsqueezed you got fairly close to scope.

Why not use a 2.35 x 1 anamorphic adapter if your that serious? Adapting it to the camera lens would be a bear. Double focus without rotating the anamorphic lens and maintaining the lenses as close together as possible. Also the anamorphic lens must be physically as big or bigger in diameter to prevent vignetting. Fifty grand ought to do it . I went all through this with 16mm and I won. Only mine was 2.66 x 1 (for real Cinemascope)

I've seen some stuff done on the DVX100 in electronic 16:9 with the 16:9 lens and it looked pretty good. Of course if you're going out to a standard format like tape or DVD then the best you can do is 16:9 and crop bits off the top and bottom.
However with say WMV I think you can have anything you desire.
