Titles - Boris RED 3

So I recently saw some very cool animated titles that were done using Boris RED 3. Awesome!

I'm confused as to how I should create my titles in RED. I know when I use RED as a Video Effect I just drop it on the event and RED opens, I do my thing, hit apply, and there it is in VEGAS.

How do I add Titles from RED? Is this something that I have to open RED as Standalone then import to VEGAS? Is there a way that I can Create/Add titles using RED from my VEGAS timeline?

First, RED can open straight inside Vegas...but it's very slow. However, everything is on the Vegas timeline if you work this way.
Or, you can export sequential TGA from Boris, or export uncompressed files. Vegas will open both.
Insert title, then use RED as the Effect if that's what you'd rather do.

I do NOT see Insert>Title. I DO see Insert>Text Media

When I Insert>TextMedia
It says Sample Text. Should I delete this text?

When I apply RED as an Effect and Launch RED I can't manipulate this SampleText. Also I get this error when I try to insert Text.

Invalid menu handle.
MenusImp.cpp
65

Is there any documentation or tutorials that describe how to use RED w/ VEGAS? I'm soooo stoked on RED... just a bit frustrated.

Thanks in advance.

Do you get the same error when you try to do the same thing outside Vegas? using just the Boris Red Engine?
I REALLY wish I could get timeline feedback from Boris in Vegas. But while we can't do that, I've been using RED only in the standalone version. LIke DSE mentioned, it's quicker that way.

Same here..I use Boris in the stand alone mode. Many times I'll be rendering in Vegas and I can still do titles and special effects in Boris while waiting for Vegas to compete rendering.

If it works like Graffiti (full version) does - it has NOTHING at all to do with the Vegas text media.

You have to insert an empty event on the timeline (inside Vegas select the menu for Insert->Empty Event)- and then l apply a Boris Red FX to that event (you should see Boris Red as an available FX to choose from the list along with all the regular Vegas FX's). You can then click on the "Boris FX" properties button inside the FX window in Vegas. This will launch Red and you can then do all your work.

This <should> be described in the user guide that came with it. Look for the appendix on how to work with Vegas.

I agree. I've done the tests and Boris renders faster in stand alone then in Vegas. Takes up more space and leads to problems if you have to render out anything longer than 50 secs or so, but render to animated quicktime and you'll be fine. It seems to look best and play in Vegas better any tiffs or uncompressed, or at least that's what I've deduced so far. But, if you want to use Boris from inside Veags, here's the workaround I've learned:

Save your project in Vegas, open that copy in another window, and frame serve the part you want to work on in Boris from the saved project. You then go back to your original Vegas project and open Boris from it (I call this using Boris as a filter, rather than a stand alone engine). Now in Boris add another track, make it a video file, then select the frameserved clip from the Vegas copy. Turn off the viewing of the track from the original Vegas and do whatever you need to do to the frameserved clip. Once you're happy, copy and paste whatever you've done in Boris from the frameserved clip to the original Vegas clip. Delete or turn off the viewing of the frameserved clip and turn on the viewing of the original Vegas clip. Hit apply and you're changes in Boris will appear in your original Vegas project.
It's definitely not perfect, but I hope this helps.
