titles over video

I am having difficutly placing a title over a video file. For example, I have an interview section of my video and I would like to place the name of the person over the top of the video. I am sure this is an easy process, but for some reason I seem to be having difficulty doing it. Thanks for any assistance.

insert a new video track and drag it above the footage on the original track. Use this one that is above your footage to do all your titling on as this layer lays over top the lower layers.

Make sure you use the title with the alpha channel behind it.

Once you create the new video track as jrazz suggested, right-click on that track at the point where you want your title to appear, on the right-click menu there is an option to "insert text media" or something close to that wording.

Choose that option and that will open up the text generator screen where you can type in the title, adjust size and placement, add shadow, etc..

I'm a newbie and it took me a while to figure this out.

even faster, put the curser (the long verticle blinking line) where you want your text to begin, make sure you're on a clear track, then right mouse click. In that vertical menu that popped up, go to the bottom where it says, 'insert text media'.

violla!

. .and .. if you want TEXT to appear within a certain time, then click on a Video track where you want the text to start and then scrub the Cursor to right ( or even left ) - you've now highlighted a time region, NOW right click and select Insert TEXT media. You've now got an exact TEXT event within the highlighted region you've scrubbed - neat eh?
