Hi, when using the Sony Titles and Text media generator, sometimes the text in it appears raggedy around the edges, no matter what font I pick. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Maybe I have a bad setting?
Have you tried to output a video from your project to see if these ragged edges are actually part of the final video or just the way your fonts display on your project preview?
That looks fairly decent to me. Remember that even HD video is a low resolution medium compared to still photography. Whereas stills can be as sharp and clear as the text on a laser printer, video is more like the old 9-pin dot matrix printers.
Not decent at all because it doesn't happen all the time. I can show you other screen shots where the text is clean. I believe this is a bug in the software. But it really doesn't even matter considering I can't even open some projects after the update to 293 (see my other post)
I've made a lot of other videos where this behavior did not occur so I could hardly call this normal. The text is supposed to be clean around the edges. I don't see how anyone could call that normal. It looks like I intentionally added some kind of noise effect. Does anyone know how to get someone at Sony on the phone (not about this issue, VMS won't open some files after the latest update)
I sent my .vf file up to tech support and the wrote back and found the bug, and the cause. Maybe others can test to see if it happens. Here's what she said:
"Basically there is a ragged sort of "under" shadow that is always on the text. When you have a black background, you can't see it. But as a test, add some red text, then change the background from black to something light, then make the opacity on the text color all the way down to nothing - do you see how there is still black text there?
I have a feeling it's not supposed to be there, but regardless, there is a way to get rid of it - go down to shadows, and check "Enable Shadow." Then, take the shadow's opacity all the way down to 0. This should get rid of the raggedy edges for you."
Sure enough when I enabled the shadow and took the opacity all the way down, the "under shadow" disappeared and the text became clear again. Fortunately this bug has a work around while they figure out what's going on..
