Titling

PeterMac wrote on 5/13/2003, 9:39 AM
What are people using these days for titling that's just a bit flashier than Vegas's plain vanilla?

I know you can run Title Deko (say) stand-alone and then bring its output into Vegas quite successfully, after some fiddling with alpha channel settings. But are there any other solutions? It's no big deal and I don't want my stuff to finish up like a christmas tree, just a little more pizzaz on the opening titles.

Can't wait till BORIS for VEGAS hits the streets. Ulead COOL 3D is also pretty cool.

Isn't BorisRed for Vegas already released (since around a month)?

Could you folks give me a little more info on both those apps - Boris and the Ulead thing?

I thought they were both 'After Effects' type programs, not title generators..

dude forget that, GET LIGHTWAVE!!!!

theres no match for this in a consumer level.

I've tried all the programs out there for 3d animations and so far the only ones
are the ones you pay for.

Lightwave will do the job
and flash for simpler animation titles

No. Not yet.

I used a freeware program called Blender (www.blender3d.org) to create an animated opening for my videos.

Thanks everyone - much appreciated.

Maybe SoFo(?) will investigate improving this area of Vegas one day. The problem seems perennial.

I thought that the titler for Vegas was great (compaired to the one built into premiere... oh wait, there is none! :) ) Blender is fun to use, but I still can't get the hang of it. The people who made 3dStudio MAX released a free version called GMax, but you NEED an internet connection on your computer to use it (looks for certain cookies). Another thing that might work (that I want to expiriment with soon) is with game renders. Games like Quake 3 and Unreal Tourney are about $15 now a days, the editors are free, and they can do ALMOST as much as a program like Lightwave can do (almost). It's be cool to make a virtual scene in a game then blue/green screen someone in. :)

I use Ulead 3D Cool Studio and think it is great once you get the hang of it. Has many built in text affects and animatin paths. Keyframe feature allows you to get the motion, etc exactly how ou want it. They have a free trial download on the Ulead website. Just be aware that it looks confusing to start out with. At least for me it was confusing as I had not used any animation software before. I'm getting used to it!!

If you can find it, try WebFX or 3Dfx (same program, different samples) from Asymetrix. It produces raytraced glass titles, marble, fire, etc. It makes Cool3D from Ulead look like a toy (I have 3 versions of Cool3D (buggy though) and not realistic) and is easier to use. There are other comments about it within the video topics.

I have Asymetrix 3DFX and use it for all my stuff but I checked the
web site and they no longer support it.

Hi all,

Funny that this thread should start up now - I had posted a similar question earlier. I am a Pinnacle 'convert' but I have to say that the inbuilt titler, a cut down version of Title Deko, certainly enabled ne to create 'catchier' titles than does Vegas!

I find it a bit odd that, given the immense power and flexibilty of Vegas, it is so light-weight in this area (IMHO)

I either use Real-DRAW Pro for static titles or Cool 3D for motion titles. Both are relatively inexpensive and easy to use.

I had avoided using Windows XP because I thought my Asymetix 3Dfx (WebFX - same product, different clipart) wouldn't work. After installing XP, it works! A small crash, but I have rendered several chrome, gold, glass, transparent ray traced rendered titles and they work as well as ever. The other apps, like Ulead's 3D is junk (I have 3 versions of it and it looks like a toy, not beautiful realistic rendered titles, etc.).

There is a place in Florida that purchased the rights to the software and still sells it--without much support. I shouldn't be more than $70 bucks. Incredible output.
