I found it very interesting to receive the e-mail . Thought Sony was promoting Boris as a titler.

Not too bad. Several hundred presets, output video ok, but won't hold up to much enlargement. I'm still sorting out Wax and Boris LTD, so it has helped a coupla titles. Darryl

I've used wild fx for years, it's a terrific program, haven't tried alpha-exporting from the pro version for inclusion in vegas, would be very interested to hear how it works if anyone has done this.. I still have the regular wildfx version (also the extra patrick jansen fx are superb)

Think they're just trying to keep to their original agnostic approach to everything.
fdooman wrote on 6/25/2004, 9:56 PM
I'm going to order it. since it comes with lots of presets.

It (the output) does not look to be anywhere near the quality as Boris products.

Good interface though.

Too bad they don't get together with Boris... :)

It's pretty cool, but it's just not the same quality.

(I guess this made me appreciate the Boris Graffiti quality.)

It looks to me like a flash editor. I just bought SWISHmax which has the same capabilities and you can drop SWF files on the Vegas timeline so it looks like redundant function for me. SWISHmax has timeline just like Vegas so it was very easy to pick up. I’m gonna pass on Wild FX.

Can any of you who've used swish, boris, wildfx post a quick videoclip .wmv of something flash-titled and added into vegas?

It would be great to see a few side-by-side comparisons... flash titles are a perfect fit w/vegas if done well, trying to figure out which program is best to use here before buying..

I've only had a quick play with Boris but spent a bit of time looking at the WildFx demos. From what I can see Boris comes closest to phot realistic 3d text but may involve a steep learning curve, particularly if you wanted complex animation of the text.
The flash based text is more aimed at web content, it's very economic on bandwidth as it's being rendered in the client machine. Being vector based it shoudl be highly scalable if bought into Vegas as flash, not if it's prerendered out though. But I don't think flash lets you define subtle effects such as lighting, reflectivity and bevelled edges.
Really depends on what you're looking for, wouldn't be silly to have both.

>>Boris...may involve a steep learning curve

Oh, it certainly does.

It's just plain weird.

If, however, one takes the time to learn it, which I am still doing, it pays off well.

No question with respect to Boris quality...it's just hard to do.

WildFX Pro is an excellent little program to use when you need your text to make a grander (cooler) entry and exit in your video. Although it has hundreds of awesome presets and you can play with the timing of the animations, you cannot key in it. It's not an elaborate 3D package. It renders very clean 30fps AVI's that work great and look great in Vegas. I have never tried any Flash stuff in it. I bought it strictly to make and output the text animations to AVI. I think I recall SonyEPM making a positive comment about WildFX in a thread earlier this year.

Since I just got asked for some last minute title additions to a project just about to go out the door, this was a timely email from Sony!
It's easy to use and the presets are great, though it does seem to be primarily a Flash oriented program - no surprise if you check out the company's other offerings.

However... I haven't got the Alpha channnels sorted out yet - can't seem to get a transparent background.

Anyone got a any clues?

Cheers,

Andy

So far, Zaxwerks ProAnimator is a joy to work with. It makes very cool text effects and comes with many presets that are easy to tweak.
DGrob wrote on 6/27/2004, 8:32 AM
AndyMac, I've got the same problems. I've tried exporting avi with the transparent background box checked. Select the media in Vegas and activate alpha channel to no avail. Anyone else? Darryl

There's some info at:
http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=285937

If you're making the correct alpha properties selection on the clip in Vegas and still getting no transparency, then your settings in WildFX Pro are probably not correct.

On video settings: must have Compression set to "NONE", and depth set to "Millions of Colors +" before rendering the AVI clip in WildFX Pro. Again, compression is none. There is no codec, just, none. Also make sure the video quality slider is moved all the way to "best" and that fps is set at 30. Beyond that, I don't know what to suggest.

Can you export from Wild FX as an SWF file? If so you can just drop that on the Vegas timeline. (just a thought) This is what I do with SWISHmax.

I went ahead and bought bluff titler last night, it alpha-combines titles nicely on video clips, as in:
