Titling Plug-Ins

Movick wrote on 6/3/2006, 5:29 PM
I've asked this before, but my search thus far based on the “Vegas Plug-Ins” website has me less than trilled.

I need a titler which will work with Vegas allowing me to create dynamic text effects such as those seen in TV commercials (i.e text flyouts, fly-ins, blur, etc.) I purchased Bluff Titler already, and quite frankly it produces somewhat amateurish looking, and over-processed text. The program’s timeline totally sucks too! No keyframes? The heck do ya mean?
I’m looking for clean dynamic, flowing text FX for my projects. Tisn’t there some straight-forward titler out there?
Anyone own Heroglyph? Does that do what I’m seeking? Please help!!

Thanx,

Mov

This may be more than what you need, but download the trial of swishmax. It has a lot of professional looking text effects built in and they are directly importable to Vegas as swf files including the alpha channel. You can also make your own.

Heh heh... I guess Swishmax.com might be a starting point huh?
This is a Flash generating program?

Interesting program; I can certainly use the other capabilities for web and such. This can output to .avi? Does it render clean? Seems like the perfect suggestion...cheers bud!!!

Actually it outputs to .swf which you can drag and drop to the vegas timeline. There is a tutorial on vasst.com that will be a good starting point for titling using swishmax. I think it is called typewriter effect. Just do a search for that and it should come up- it will show you how to get to the titlling effects and how to set it up and you can go from there.

As for the web address- just google swishmax

"(i.e text flyouts, fly-ins, blur, etc.)"

Have you tried doing any of this in Vegas? You can accomplish these things very easily using transitions and FX. True, Vegas' titler isn't as robust as some others, but you can still do a lot with it. You can generally treat text as you would any other item on the timeline. You want blur? Add a Gaussian Blur FX and keyframe it. You want a fly-in? Add a fly-in transition to the beginning of the clip.

Of course, you may already know this and just be looking for another solution, in which case, I'll shut up now. Good luck!

Corug,

Thanks for the advice; what you've suggested isn't a bad way to go, however I do need more, i.e. text cascading in one letter at a time in an arc kinda thing. Text effects are key to what I'm involved with now; digital signage.

thanx

You just described Zaxwerks' animator products.

Most of them are After Effects plug-ins, but they also have a standalone program, and a new combo product, ProAnimator, that can be used either way, which has advantages.

This program is used for a lot of what you see on the TV networks, as it lets you do in minutes what you could be sweating to do in hours with other tools.

They have a trial version download.

Bluff Titler has keyframes and you can certainly tone down the over used glitz.

I would also try wild fx pro. Render out to avi with transparent background. This works great for me. I use max on some projects as well.

Yes: SwishMax can output to AVI, and that's definitely the way to go (IMHO). SwishMax is great for animated text (e.g. rolling credits).
