Depends on what deck/cam you captured with. If you used the FX1 for capture, the answer is "no." FX1 doesn't pass T/C down firewire. This is one of the places where GearShift really shines, but of course it takes longer to do the downconvert.

Seems like it should be possible to recognize the source info and sub out. Well I geuss I will have to wait for the next project. Shame, If I would have known I might have been able to hold off. But with Sonys new practice of keeping it's forum members out of the loop unlike in the past burned me. I am happy with the upgrade but any info would have been nice.

I've been in this forum since Vegas 2 and i don't remember us users ever being in the loop on new features of upcoming versions. SONY's policy of keeping mum dates way back into the Sonic Foundry days.

First hasn't been Sony from back then. Second was not uncommon for Foundry to be all over the forums answering and replying to posts. I haven't seen a single sony post in months and none about the Vegas 7 release. Before these last 2 releases. 6 and 7 Foundry made huge advancements from version to version and almost totally driven by the forum feedback. It is disconcerning that Sony leaked all info to small groups and to certain events keeping the real users out of the loop. I am a very happy Vegas user since version 2 and am happy with the new release but feel somewhat neglected as a longtime customer as of late. Judging from the posts over the last few weeks I am not alone. Just my 2 cents and how it effects me. Now gotta go play with the new release and wait for my next project to really get into it.

How does the T/C come into play in this user's scenario? If he independently captured his footage as HDV and then did a "replace media" from the timeline, wouldn't that work ok? He'd have to change the media properties and project properties, of course, but how would T/C get him on this?

Or does Vegas look for timecode when you do a "replace media" from the timeline? I use a Z1 camera and I've never had problems when I replace media. (Course I never switched from SD to HDV for the same event).

Because he didn’t capture the HDV footage yet. So you would need a T/C accurate capture matching the DV T/C to HDV T/C for the edits to be frame accurate.

We're not using HDV, but we did a similar thing with DV...

We captured a DV tape as normal with Scene Detection, then converted the AVI files to very small 'Proxy' versions which could be FTP'd to editors in a remote location.
Then when the original footage arrived back, the Veg files were opened and we used the 'Replace Media' facility to change the small WMV proxies back to the original AVI clips.

I can see no reason you can't do the same with HDV footage - after all, Scene Detection now works with HDV, right?
Should be able to capture in HDV, then simply replace all the DV clips.

well I captured the clips with no scene detection. I have not captured the HDV clips yet but I would think it would have the same source data. I think spot was right, just frustrating. I spent more then 100 hr. so far on the edit including major color correction and pan crops. all sorts of stuff. Way too much to start over. Thanks for all of the feedback. I would think that someone in the future could come up with a utility that would do this by matching userbits or even scene matching. I could recapture in HDV and replace media but the durations and exact timing would be off slightly. Maby if I captured entire tape. AGHHHHHH. again just frustrating. The show looks great but I can only imagine how much better it could be especially in some of the dark stuff in the begining.
