Tool to batch convert old Sony Vegas Pro scripts to Magix Vegas Pro 14

FocusOnVegas wrote on 9/24/2016, 10:15 AM

Starting with Magix Vegas Pro 14 your old (Sony) Vegas Pro scripts ‘ll not work directly in Vegas Pro 14.

I made a little free tool, called “SoMaConverter” (Sony Vegas Pro Magix Vegas Pro script converter) that can (batch) convert your old Sony Vegas Pro scripts to Magix Vegas Pro (14) scripts.

Maybe it's convenient for you.

Thank you very helpful. One thing I found is that it works for saving the updated script in the original folder but will not save in the Vegas 14 script folder. Not sure why.  Andy

Yes, thank you. That was too easy.

I used SoMaConverter on the Mercalli-Vegas.js script file used with Mercalli V2 plug-in and got the plug-in working in Vegas Pro 14. I was quite impressed. The plug-in won't work correctly in earlier versions of Vegas until the original javascript file is restored.

I compared Mercalli V2 with V4 in VP14 and found that M4 is almost twice as fast as M2 in VP14, even with "cubic" option turned on. However, M2 is faster than M4 when playing back the timeline (on my machine).

One thing I found is that Mercalli V2 in VP13 will sometimes crash on about 2 in 100 clips and this is the same with Merc V2 in VP14. Merc V4 so far has been OK even with the clips that crash V2. One thing I like with V2 is that it works really well with slightly shaky/rotation problems. While V4 really tries to hold everything like a rock which can cause some funny wobbles. It's good to have both.

This 'll only work if you have adminstrator rights (sufficient rights to write in the folder) and your script folder is in the default installation location on a "C:" drive. So if you have changed your default script folder or you have installed Vegas on anoher drive this option''ll not work;  you have to use the deault option "in the same folder".

I 've tested the option "in Vegas 14 script folder" with Windows 7. I don't know if the default installation folders of Vegas 14 are different for Windows 7, 8 or 10.  I didn't use Windows functions to discover where Vegas is installed. You probably ''l not use this tool every day . If the option "in Vegas 14 script folder" doesn't work for you, use the default option.
