just been handed a tosh p30 (3.2/512/80mb) and 200g maxtor ex drive by the local education dept and told, go teach video production'.

the production part isn't a problem - it's the video i'm not too sure about. can i;

a. capture direct to ex drive - dsr11>vegas cap>maxtor?

b. edit on the laptops internal drive only (programs no longer than 5 minute exercises)

c. any suggestions?

and no, they wouldn't spring for a catering truck....

If you are doing a. then why are you doing b.?

a. and b. seem to be mutually exclusive.

Yes, you can do it that way if you want. But if you're capturing to the external drive then why not use it while editing? On the other hand, if you want to use the internal drive while editing then it would probably make more sense to capture to the internal drive to begin with.

Yeah, capture to the big drive and edit off the big drive and you should have no problems

thanks...

to clarify a little....

the reason behind the questions was the workflow (and not knowing if the p30 has enough of what it takes to edit off it's internal drive only).

shoot direct to hd a number of scenes (about 1 > 2hours). cut the 5 > 10 minute individual take from ex drive to internal so the student can work with them on the p30.

why? well, we don't want the ex drive, with the original material to get 'wiped' accidentally, nor physically damaged, or simply lost (always happened with my homework).

and the exercise is in tapeless production - readying the students future proof (ha! ha!)
