Track FX icon

Running Vegas 10. Had been at Vegas 8 last time I worked on a multi-track audio mixdown. I've used Vegas 10 for a number of video projects, but this is the first one where I'm using it for mixing down 13 tracks of audio only. I've been using Vegas from the very beginning, mostly for multi-track audio. Still, I missed something. . .

I was noticing that the Track FX icons for most tracks were Amber during a playback. It took me a while to realize that they were green when I wasn't playing back. I haven't been able to find anything in the manual or help that tells me what is going on here. I also see the Automation setting (at Touch now).

The Track FX icons for two tracks STAY green all the time.

I'm not sure if this is tied to the Automation, but I don't have any control surfaces. Any insight or a pointer to where this is in the Help or a manual would be appreciated.

An amber colored track icon in playback, indicates an active automation plug-in(s).. or automation ready. Plug-ins that can't be automated remain green. I believe most (or all) VSTs can be automated.

Thank you.

It seems a bit weird that even with the Automation set of Off on the track, the icon still changes color when I am in play.

The amber color indicates that the plugin is non in place. That is it has a latency. The latency is compensated for during playback, but on record it cannot be.

Thanks for the clarification Peter

Thanks Peter. I haven't heard of "non in place" but I understand the latency issue.

Is the latency an issue within the plugin? Is it "curable"?

I'm running Vegas on a relatively powerful 4-core i7-2600k Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine with 16 GB of ram and 8 TB of SATA-3 (6GB) storage.
