Track Lag?

um, a BAD thing is happening. can one of u'all help me?

I have about 23 tracks in a song.

After Recording a new track, I play it back and it lags behind the rest of the tracks between 2 and .5 seconds.

(This caused much distress to my guitar player who I wrongly chewed out for not playing in time:)

If I play the track back with the record still armed, the sound starts playing before the cursor gets to the actual wave on the visual interface.

If I disarm the record and rewind the song, the visual track matches the actual sound, but they are both pushed back.

Please help before I am drawn and quatered by my bandmates:)

My Machine:

AMD Athlon XP 1800
512 MB DDR RAM
Asus A7V-266 mobo
80g 7200 RPM HD

I have the same problem, except in my case the tracks start out okay but the further into the song you get the more out of sync they become. Have you run into this? Have any thoughts?

Thanks

If the computer bogs down during recording there will be a minute amount of time that was not recorded. So the recording continues, but without these minute slices of time.

You might want to make sure you're not asking too much of your machine. This was the culprit for me; a simple close listen back to the track will let you know if the above situation is happening (you won't hear a gap but a place where it sounds as if a split second of audio has been cut out).

Cheers
