Track Motion revisited

Hi

Thank for all previous help!

I've been through the manual looking at both track motion and pan/crop and kind find what I really want to do but am sure it can be done. I do have ideas but wondered whether I am using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

First, what I would like to acheive.

I have seen many adverts, films, etc. where the main part is split into, say, three sections on the, for arguments sake, right-hand side of the screen. The subject, perhaps a man walking, would be seen in three sections with the head in one, torso in second and legs in the third with a black line (anyy thickness) in between. If you were to close these three sections you would have a full picture.

On the left you would have another shot of any size. All this on a black (or any other colour) background.

I can see how I can sort out the left-hand side by using track motion for a picture in picture effect. But for the right hand side I cannot find a way to show the three separate parts of the main. I have added the same event on three tracks and tried to crop each one so that a third is shown but, either I get a squashed picture or I just can't seem to line everything.

Should I be using maks for this.

Is there a definitive way of achieving ,y goal.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Actually, I think I found my own answer. It appears that if I uncheck 'Check to fill frame' I can acheive what I want and have done. But if any one can elaborate on my ideas and offer better solutions then please do. I am learning fast and isn't it just fun:-)
