Track motion size problem

Where am I going wrong in the understanding on that's happening? I have downloaded a veg file that gives me 9 views at once on the screen once I have dropped my 9 clips onto them. I dragged the tracks into a different sequence & changed the start time slightly so that they opened one at a time & in a different pattern with the center one opened last. The small 9 videos all play in the preview window when I press play. At this stage everything is going just as I expected. The center video was originally a generated media file that was rendered out as an AVI file & imported as one of the nine. I wanted this center title video play at it's mall size for a few seconds & then expand out to full size so that the title was the only thing seen on the screen.

When I selected the track motion button for this center video the settings are for alpha channel with both the X & Y settings at zero & the width & height set to 720 & 576 (I'm using Pal). The outline of the clip on the grid is small & in the center as I would have expected. When I put the settings on to maintain aspect ratio & off to allow rotations & click the corner of the clip I get a small circle which when I drag changes the figures in the box on the left hand side but nothing at all changes in the preview window. If I click on the width settings & drag the figures up & down the size of the box on the grid also expands & contracts at the same time but no changes are seen in the preview window. I feel certain the problem has more to do with my understanding as to what's going on but I am unable to figure just what I should be doing instead. Any ideas?

You are making changes to a point on the track that is not the same as where your cursor presently is..thus no change in the preview.

Turn on the keyframe sync cursor and it will make more sense to you.

I did have the keyframe sync cursor turned on. I have even selected the clip looped it & tried soloing the track but the preview doesn't change. Am I using the correct tool to change the size of the clip?

It sounds to me like Gary is on the right lines. To be more specific, click somewhere in the middle of the clip so that the timeline cursor moves there, and make sure that you can see the correct clip in the preview window. Then try opening the Track Motion window and making changes. You should now see the changes reflected in the preview window.
