track sync in VA2

hey yo -

System specs: 700mHz Dell Precision, Win2K, 256Mb RAM, 18Gb 10K RPM SCSI HDD (dedicated to audio), Matrox G400 DualHead w/dual displays, and one Frontier Design Dakota using latest beta 6a drivers. Dakota talks to Yamaha O1v via litepipe (8 in, 8 out) and spdif(2 in, 2 out).

Problem: extreme latency/synchonization problems on record and playback of multiple tracks.

OK: Occasionally I've experienced sync problems between tracks during playback, but usually I just stop and hit play again and everyone's in sync again. Typically happens when I've got maybe 16-24 tracks going. But then last week I did my first live drum session on this setup and I had major voodoo. I was monitoring 2 stereo and 2 mono tracks while recording 5 mono and 1 stereo tracks. Everything seems to record fine, but then when I go to playback, the drums lag the other tracks by about 250ms! So I gotta go in and manually line it all up. Then on playback, I get the previous sync problems, but now they're much more prevalent. Anyway, I expect some latency, but in the single digits - something I can compensate for in the software. The PC and SCSI disk are not even close to being stressed that I can see. I suspect the Dakota hardware and/or drivers - I've read some of the comments on this forum about the WDM drivers. If the drivers are problematic is there an alternative?

Thanks in advance for your consideration.
