(1)When you use "Insert Text Media", go to the Properties tab and make sure the Opacity Slider (to the left of the color bars in the "Background Color" part of the display) is all the way at the bottom. This is actually the default setting, so you shouldn't have to change anything.

(2)You can't use transparency tools to make the background of a scene transparent, if you mean keeping the FOREGROUND visible and making only the background transparent. Using Chroma Key is the only way to do that.... and your background has to be a single, uniform color.

1. If you use a preset with a checkerboard background, it will automatically be transparent.

2. If you pull the opacity bar down, it will show whatever is BELOW that track. If you have nothing there, it will go to black.

You can also change the default background color in the OPTIONS/PREFERENCES/VIDEO selection, to be any color you wish.
