transfer project to 2nd computer

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have to work on a family project on my laptop but then transfer it to my main pc for rendering and DVD burning. Both have VMS Plat 6.0.

Should I create a folder with all files and then copy that from the laptop to my PC via a 8GB USB drive I have?

Wasn't sure if I have to do some export or save as vs a copy?

Appreciate some advice so I can start this project correctly.

Thanks.

Save all project files and project itself on a specific folder, e.g. c:\video-project1\ and then copy the whole folder on the USB drive. Then, go to the other PC, and copy the folder from the usb drive to the C:\ drive. Then, open the project .vf file with Vegas on the main PC.

Another option if you have a wireless network setup, is to connect to a shared folder on your desktop from your laptop. Then just copy over the folder that way.

I setup shared folders both on my laptop and my desktop so that I can connect to both computers from either one. Makes it really easy to transfer files and work with projects that are on the desktop from across the house or out in the yard.

But yeah, what Eugenia said. Put each project in it's own folder and transfer the whole folder. I copy them instead of moving, that way I have copies on both computers. When I update the project I just copy it over to the other computer, the one I didn't use to make the changes, and overwrite the work files. This way I have the same project on both puters and makes it nice to work when you are out somewhere away from home with the laptop. When you get home just copy the changed files to the desktop and there you go.

Works even better if you have a wired network. Wires are typically 2 to 100 times faster than wireless, and you don't get the network dropouts anywhere near as often.

Dumb question: We have a DSL router, Ethernet connected to my main computer. Our other computers have wireless cards. I know where the shared folder it and how to use that (I use one at work). But what I don't know is this: Just because each computer has a shared folder and our computers all connect to the same router, does this mean we can also use this shared folder? Or do I have to actually set up the network?

I know very little about networks so appreciate the help.

Easiest way is to use an external USB hard drive. They are relatively cheap these days. I use a 160 GB external drive anbd just plug it into the computer I am using at the time. Even though the laptop allocates a different drive number than the desktop it just start up and you continue editing from where you were. No copying of files, no problems. May be a good idea to back up to one of your internal hard drives if you worry about disk failures.
