Ok, for a while I was able to add transitions by hitting '/' or '*' now they don't work. I am sure I turned them off somehow, but I cannot find in the manual how to turn them back on.

Also, how do you remove a transition; I cannot find anywhere instructions.
I find that panning and zooming work better if there is no transition before or after
