Transition Stutter

Dazza wrote on 12/5/2007, 3:10 PM
I have a problem with 3D transitions, e.g. 3D Shuffle, between still images in that, when played on TV, the transition stutters badly. I render using upper field first as I've found that when using lower field first the DVD will not play on some DVD players. My problem is that I can only replicate the problem on a TV so have to burn a DVD after each trial. Is there a standard for render settings that will suit all situations particularly when there is a mixture of stills and video? Any help please.

Interesting. Annoying, but very interesting indeed.

If you are up for making a test, can render this section as uncompressed AVI and report back with what happens?

Do you get this when you Preview from the Timeline? Is it JUST happening once MPEG-ed onto a DVD? Do you do an interim AVI prior to MPEG-ing?

This is such a basic issue, that I can't think that this hasn't been raised before - it may have, but it may have dropped off the radar.

Maybe others have an idea . . ..

I've not heard before of DVD playback failing because of lower field first, but the usual approach is to make sure this setting is consistent for the whole project, so if it's a DV project, I'd leave it at Lower

The other thing is, if you have to burn before testing, use a DVD RW till you've sorted things out.

Well, the problem is only apparent when the project is authored, burned to a disc and played on a TV. As an AVI and MPEG and on the time line it is perfect. My difficulty is that when using lower field first my discs play fine on my players but not on others. I do not have direct access to a player that misbehaves to test remedies! I use DVDA and/or Studio for auhoring.

Hi There. Do you know I had this problem for ages, I suspect you maybe dealing in PAL video, anyway the way I got around it was to make sure that in your project settings that DeInterlace Method is set to either blend or interpolate. Now I know that as you are not scaling anything this should make no difference, but in my prior history with Vegas, it just seems to make a difference.

Try it anyway.

Thanks Matt, an excellent suggestion, I'll try it as soon as I get a chance.
