Transitions...

Is there a way to directly change the length of a transition? I see the 0:07 indicator on the timeline but I don't see how to get to it to change it other than fiddling with the cursor.

VMS seems to be entirely mouse driven with no way to change anything directly. Is there a switch somewhere that will let me precisely control events on the timeline? Isn't that the point of a *time*line?

I am working with the blown up timeline which makes it easier to see the tiny indicators -- but more difficult to see the flow of my images. I'm sure I'll get more accustomed to it but right now, it seems like an awful lot of work.

You can zoom in/out in time using the mousewheel - normally I have the track(s) that I work on right now zoomed both in time as well as in the height - then you see the -else tiny- details better.
If you make a habit always using the same time-zoom factor then -after a short time- you do not read the 0.07 etc. but you see the duration of event, transitions etc. intuitively.

And yes you can do a lot with the mouse - but there are also some 100+ keyboard shortcuts when you get more used to VMS.
When you want to nudge a selected event i.e. use the 1 and 3 on the Numeric keypad (Num Lock on)

If you want to know more about VMS(P) than what is in its manual try the manual from the full Vegas - as many things are the same, and the descriptions there are more detailled and with many examples:
