Transitions

I just added and set all of my photos on the timeline to the music - 4 different songs. Now I want to add my transitions, but is the only way to add them to drag one photo over another for an overlap and then drag the transition into that 'X' area? Now my timing and everything is going to be thrown off for my entire video.

I thought you could just drag the transition between two photos. HELP! Any suggestions or any other ways to do this so my photos and timing is not all messed up now?

You have to have an overlap to have a transition. No way around that, so you'll have to drag one of the photos out to overlap the other.

All is not lost! Turn off auto-ripple. Now extend the photo by dragging the edge instead of dragging from inside the event. This will make it longer without moving it.

Actually, if you have the photos butted up against each other, you can click the cursor right where the two photos meet, then press "/" on the numeric keypad to add a crossfade (overlap). The duration of the overlap is set by the "Cut to overlap" setting in the Edit tab of the Options >> Preferences.

You will still have to drag and drop a transition at each overlap. If you want the same transition on multiple clips, select all the clips as desired then drop the transition onto one of the crossfades. It will be applied to all selected crossfades.

A couple other buttons -- "*" and "-" on the numeric keypad have similar functionality, but they will convert the cut to a dissolve (*) or to a linear wipe (-).
