Transparent backgrounds (or alpha channels) are only supported in Uncompressed AVIs or some QT formats (such as animation).

if I have a transparent image/video and I put on a vegas video track, is it possible to render with a transparent background isntead of the black default in vegas?

regards

I do this for .MOV files all the time. To maintain the transparency, I set Video Format to "none." I can only guess that it would be something similar for .AVI.

Joni,

After you have rendered your uncompressed avi file for the transparency and placed it back on the timeline, don't forget to right click on the clip and go to properties. Under the media tab you need to set the alpha channel to something other than undefined or none. Otherwise it will still show up with a black background and will not overlay events on lower tracks.
