Transparent Backgrounds and new 3D VideoFX

dsanders wrote on 4/24/2002, 3:45 PM
I have two events that I would like to transition between. These events are PhotoShop files that contain a simple circular image on a transparent rectangular background. If I overlap these images the bottom image gets clipped in a circular fashion by the top image as expected. If I place these images side by side, and transition between them using the new 3D VideoFX (such as the 3D Shuffle) the clipping that takes place while the shuffle is happening is retangular. It's as if the FX is ignoring the transparency? Is this normal? I was expecting to see the shuffle look like two coasters are being exchanged, instead it looks like two playing cards. Is there a way around this?

Thanks,
Don Sanders

Any suggestions?

I can see why you might want the alpha of the source to be used in your particular case, but that is not how the transitions work- if we blended the source alpha and the transition alpha, you'd wind up with some crazy side effects in most cases.

I parked a sample project at:

ftp://porker.sonicfoundry.com/

username: dude
password: sweet
folder: shuffling circles

This project does a swap using tracks, and I hope that'll show you how to achieve the swapping circles effect. I added some shadows to give it some depth- feel free to goof around with those. Yes, this is more difficult to program, but I think you'd have to do it the same way in AE or other compositing apps. This was a good brain teaser!

SonicEPM,
Can I have your permission and download the files in your FTP site? (for example: the sample projects files)
Please let me know.
Thank you in advance,
Shaun

Ahh, so that's how you do it! Pretty tricky. Thanks for the ideas - I'm glad I could tease your brain a little.

Any chance of putting the "shuffling circles" example back on the ftp site.
Or does it no longer work in V4.

Thanks

How about a new idea, not tutorials, per se, but a place on the SoFo Download website where this sort of thing can be permanently parked for public use.

Put a simple description, and thats it. No support, just the description of what it does.

There are SO MANY wonderful ideas discussed here, perhaps SoFo can collect them and make them available. WOW, what a Forum!

I would really like to see this 'shuffling circles' project. Does any one else have this project saved?

Hello Dave,

Tried to get shuffling circles but couldn't find the folder.

Thanks,
