Transparent credit roll

Randy Brown wrote on 12/12/2004, 10:06 AM
I made a "scrolling on black" credit roll and then decided I wanted it transparent so I slid down the color for the background color to transparent and re-rendered to put in my master veg but it isn't transparent (with it being on top of my main video track). In the small veg I created it in (by itself) it is transparent (if I put a track below it) but not when I reder and import to the master veg. I have a feeling it has something to do with parent/child compositing but I get no results jacking around with it. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
TIA,
Randy
BTW I just copy/pasted into the master veg and it works fine but still curious.

I must be missing something in what you did.

If you made a credit roll with generated media "scrolling on black" and want to change to
"scrolling on transparent" you only have to click the "generated media" icon on the event and change the preset to "scrolling on transparent".

Randy you need to render in uncompressed AVI .. Once this is done then bring this rendered file back to the t/l .. look at its properties and select Aplha Channel > Premultiplied. You will then have a transparent text event which has kept its trannnie background.

I would have but it changed (defaulted to) my fonts, font sizes, and color (red header) so I just thought I would slide the background color down to transparent...which worked fine until rendering and importing to another project.

I just tried that my friend but no difference. I should have "source alpha" selected for the track composite mode right?
Like I say it's no big deal since I just copy/pasted the clips but still wondering what I don't undersatnd about the Alpha world : )
Thanks again guys,
Randy

I see what you did now.

When you render to uncompressed avi select custom and check the render alpha channel checkbox.

Then as Grazie said and all is fine.

EDIT "render alpha channel is under the "video" tab.
