Can I create a mpeg-2 TRANSPORT Stream using Vegas? Cable company is starting to accept commercials via ftp site. If no to transport how can I create a H.264, 720 x 480 file? Thanks, JM
Which version of Vegas?
I think this would be right If using 8.0 -- set project properties to NTSC-DV 720x480.
Render using.MainConcept AVC/AAC mp4 template.
Looks to me like I'll have to use an outside program to create a transport stream. The h264 route may work, but I think that would be re-encoded to a ts file. So I'm thinking that sending a transport stream would be best.
Blink, how do I create a ts in V8? I looked in the help files but no joy. RC, I'll look at Elecard, thanks. jm
I wish I could say it was easy. Digital broadcast has alot of additional streams
that make the guides and captioning work. There is a howto on the Elecard site for
using their TSmuxer software to set program, stream PES, and stream ids.
Also I'll look for the info from Video Propulsion. They make the hardware card
that takes transport stream and modulates the QAM channel your cable company
might be using.
Talk with the engineer there, they might steer you to what they exactly need
so you don't pay too much for conversions.
Thanks RC. It's beggining to look like a bunch of work for me just so I can save the cable guys some work. Cable still accepts tape, so at least for the moment I think I'll let them do the encoding. It would be handy to be able to send a spot on a moments notice, but I think I'll wait for an easier workflow. Thanks for you help. jm
Sorry, I didn't mean to discourage you. Still talk to your local company.
FTPing may save you money in the long time as they may automatically
filter the default IDs from Elecard (et al) software. Luckily, spots less than
5 minutes don't need closed captioning which is a pain.
RC, nope didn't discourage me. I did create an h.264 file in Vegas and took it to them on a disc this afternoon. Worked fine, except they would have to re-encode to TS. Quality wise I'm thinking that sending them a tape is the way (for now) to go. They directly encode straight to the file they need. Thanks for your help. jm.
