Traxdata CD-RW

Ladgrin wrote on 3/2/1999, 7:49 PM
Here's the scenario:
Running update CD Arch 4.0f , Symbios 53c825 SCSI Controller, and
Traxdata-Phillips 2x2x6
CD-RW. I've updated the bios on the controller.

Can't get the CD-RW drive to be recognized Under Select Drive ->
Advance -> properties

Drive doesn't seem to be supported even with SoundForge CD-R psuedo
virtual CD-R.

Does anyone know a decent setting? Or how to update the drive list
(via REGISTRY HACK)?

Any response is a good respone. I've wasted about 3 hours on this
one.

Traxdata sells 2 different 2x2x6 drives . One is SCSI and uses a
Yamaha
CRW-2260 drive (it's called the CDRW2260PRO). CD Architect should
autodetect this drive and use the SCSIMMC driver. If you're certain
that
this is the one you own, contact our tech support and they might be
able to
help you (they'll probably need more details).

The other 2x2x6 is an IDE/ATAPI drive (which is called the CDRW
2260PLUS).
I think it uses the Philips CDD-3610, however I'm not absolutely
sure. CD
Architect doesn't support this drive (the Traxdate version) so it
won't
automatically detect it. The CDD-3610 is an ATAPI drive that works
off a
custom driver. If your OS recognizes your CD-RW, try setting the
drive type
to Philips CDD3610. You'll need to set the SCSI Host to the correct
device
number (just try selecting 0 first) and the SCSI CD-R. If your drive
isn't
listed in the CD-R list, go back and change the SCSI Host to Device 1.
Keep
trying all SCSI Hosts until your drive is displayed in the SCSI CD-R
list.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback,
The model is Traxdata CDRW2260EL PRO SCSI. I'll definately try the
host I.D. changes.
A million thanks bro!

Unfortunately,
I'm still running into the same problem.
I've set the scsi id's to O, 1,2 etc. and the CDRW type is still not
being recognized.

* I can even go as far as using the Sonic Foundry virtual driver, and
selecting my adapter
and CDRW drive.
* Run a test w/o write. It returns no error.
* Attempt to write. It goes through it's process w/o an error.
* But the result is no data being striped to CD-R

I've sent an email to tech support, and if I get a reply I'll post
it.

Thanks once again.

This may not help but I had a similar problem and with a Yamaha CDRW
and a Symbios Scsi
card. The problem was with the microsoft symbios drivers. I went to
the Symbios page and
downloaded their latest drivers (Win 98 thougth they were older
drivers) and the the whole thing
worked. I did have to set the advanced settings(in CD Architect) for
the drive as well as the
defaults were not correct.

Yes that is the solution. i used to have no problem
at all with windows95 and my Matshita CW7502,
but as soon Win98 was installed it stopped working, it
cripples SYMBIOS53C8XX drivers. again proof of
crappy windows98. so if you use a SYMBIOS SCSI card
(or mine is a NCR something for on a ASUS board)
use genuine drivers found here:

http://www.symbios.com/products/techsupp/support+drivers/pci-sw.html#w
in9598

or if you have another scsi card by another vendor
and have this problem... my best guess would be to
not trust windows' drivers and get the genuine driver.

just my penny's worth
