It trims Media Events.

ok . . from the way you have constructed your question I'm guessing you are a wee bit frustrated ( my word ) with it - yes?

Tell us what you DON'T get and then maybe we can fill in the gaps for you. Yeah?

I use Trimmer to quickly Scrub and Plop stuff onto the time-line. This allows me to DO stuff away from the actual ACTION going on ON the T/L. There are many other purposes and uses for the Trim ..

So, let's hear how far you've got - yeah?

I could not edit without the tirmmer.
Firstly, go to options>preferences>general.
Check off "double click on media file loads into trimmer instead of tracks".
Whenever you click on a file,---audio or video it loads into the trimmer.
There you can preview or listen.
Then highlight and drag selected media to the timeline.
Amazing for the old workflow!
Just like "Media Manager",---the "trimmer" is your friend from Wisconsin!
On Wisconsin! On Wisconsin!
.......sorry.
Carried away.

The trimmer can be very useful for scrubbing through a long clip, especially for searching for "B" roll cut aways, music fragments, etc., as Grazie indicates.

If your question is addressed to how to use trimmer functionally: drag a clip from the Media Pool to the Trimmer. Double click the clip in the trimmer; the clip will turn blue, indicating that it has been selected. Move the cursor to either end of the clip; the cursor shape will change to a horizontal double-ended arrow. Over either end of the clip drag the selection line left or right to scrub through the clip. Once you've selected the portion of the clip you want to move to the time line, right click in the blue selection and choose whether you want video, audio, a combination of both, etc., to move. Position the cursor on the time line where you want the clip inserted, press "A" on the keyboard and the clip will be positioned on the TL.

Hope this helps.
