Trimmer - highlighted area disappear

LarsHD wrote on 5/17/2010, 1:34 AM
1.
I hit "I" and I hit "O". Now I have a blue highlighted range in the trimmer timeline.

2.
I now want to *listen* to something in that range. So I grab the playhead by it's "head" so I can hear audio.

3.
Now when I let go of the playhead-head, then the highlighted range dissapears...

Why does it disappear?

"Why does it disappear?"

Because it's Vegas?

Seriously the lack of 'hard' in/out points has been one of my beefs ever since I started using the trimmer.
The other thing that confounds me is I select the in and out points, press A to add to the T/L and then play and the trimmer loops. Why would I want to play again what I just decided to add to the timeline. Logically I want to move on, looking for the next clip to add.

Is Options - Prefs - Editing - Collapse loop region when no time selection is present enabled?
If it is, then that's why.
If it isn't, the range area should still be selected above the timeline and double-clicking it will show the blue highlighted range again.

Mike, it's about "Trimmer". Once you use the Playhed the "highlighted selection is NOT highlighted anymore. The selection looses focus. The Selection Bars at top remain, but not active.

Well, that's the way I read it?

I think it works the same way on the T/L as well. The collapse option is on top of what Lars is talking about. You can R Click and select it again but as to why it looses focus I have no explaination for.

Clicking the "Loop Playback" button in either the Trimmer or Timeline gives the clip focus so that it will play back that section only.
Or am I completely missing the point here?
I'm not too awake yet and haven't finished my first cup of tea yet so anything is possible :-)

Nope. Make a Time Selection on the Timeline, move the playhead and the Time Selection still remains. Do this in Trimmer (as per our friend here) and it losses Focus.

Mike's response was about collapsing the selection as an option setup in prefs. Here it is about the Trimmer.

Hm,
maybe I'm missing somthing.

In the Trimmer the behavior depends on having the Loop icon active.
Seems to behave the same way on the T/L.

The clue maybe that if the trimmer window / pane is small you might not see the Loop icon.

In both, trimmer and T/L if I click to move the playhead outside the loop region then the loop region looses focus.

That's it Bob.

So basically, YES, the highlighted In / Out region I created *will* dissapear if I decide I want to grab the top of the playhead and doublecheck or listen etc. right?

Not if you activate the Loop Icon. If you don't then Yes, it will.
You may need to make the Trimmer window / pane large enough to see that icon though.

OK, I see this now Bob. Still this is *quite* ideal... hmmm... It feels like walking on eggshells, you're afraid that you'll lose what you have there.

Also, when working with audio during scrubbing.... I just can't find a way to actually scrub in the trimmer in a fast responsive way. How do I get audio in the scrubbing without getting into sluggish city?

See my other post:

1] Use the Rate Slider

2] Make sure Loop is engaged and you WILL have your Selection remain in place - no eggshells!

3] Get a CSP

Hi,

On timeline everthing works correctly.

In trimmer :

- I can't click and move trimmer playhead (cursor disappear and there is no movement)
- movement from jog results that trimmer is loosing selection and not keeping loop range
- shuttle can't operate in trimmer at all.

Suppose this is bug.

I'm using Bella keyboard.

Best regards,
