Use the "I" and "O" keys to mark the In and Out points and then use the "A" key to add that section to the timeline. You can also just create a selection and drag and drop onto the timeline. The trimmer only make one edit at a time.

Not sure you can delete in the Trimmer itself as the whole scene forms part of your Project Media. I identify the In and Out points on the Trimmer with I and O and then press A to add that selection to the Timeline (Pressing Tab allows you to send the video and the audio to the Timeline together or separately).

I find this an effective method of editing although I know some people prefer to edit in the Timeline itself. If I've used Batch Capture at the capture stage in a sensible way, the entry in the Trimmer is of a reasonable length and allows fine tuning or the rearrangement of the scene order very easily.

Vegas is a non-destructive editor. You mostly never actually delete anything. When you "trim" something, you are simply moving the in-out pointers. That's why you can "cut" an event, delete half of it, then grab the end of the remaining piece and drag it to "restore" your original. You never cut or deleted anything, you just changed pointers.
