I usually do it like this: click at the beginning of the first part you want to keep (5:00) and press "s" to split. Then click at the end of that part (5:20) and press "s" to split again. Repeat for all the beginnings and ends of the parts you want to keep, pressing "s" each time to split. Next, make sure the Auto Ripple icon is on (press Ctrl-L to toggle it on/off). Now go back and select each clip you *don't* want to keep and press Delete to delete. Every time you delete a clip, the clips to the right will move up to close the gap.

Which program of Vegas Software do you use, because you ask this on this Vegas software userforum.
If you have not, you can use the free app MP4Joiner, that splits and joine very fast parts of the same type mp4 video files ( with their audio)
