Trimming events

I'm a new user....and have ended up with the short video clip I want to use in the middle of the timeline with 'empty' space either side. How do I trim the 'empty' space - I'm sure it's easy but I'm really struggling!

If I understand what you want to do just grap the video clip and slide it to the left to the beginning of the time line.
