Trimming mpeg2

techguy99 wrote on 6/25/2004, 7:05 PM
I have been reading the forums about trimming mpeg2 files. I downloaded mpeg-vcr and tried it this morning but it was taking longer than Vegas to trim. it was wanting to re-encode everything and I couldn't find a way to stop this. Everything I have been reading says you can use this program and it is very quick. This is not my experience. Any help?

Did you try tmpgenc (if you've been searching then you should of found this program too)? It doesn't recompress.

If MPEG-VCR is recompressing, then you are doing something wrong. It is not a very intuitive program. However, it will do what you want -- just trim without recompressing.

Sony, when are you going to let Vegas do this? It is not a difficult technical challenge. You just have to do a few frames of rendering at the edit point (if it doesn't fall on the GOP boundary). You've got all the code. People want the feature. Just do it!

I use the tool in TMPGenc - works great. You can select your in/out points and it maintains the header detail
