Trouble burning to DVd

I need help! I am using Screenblast Movie Studio and am taking old VCR tapes created over the years, downloading them into the computer and using Screenblast to do the editing. After editing I "Make Movie" (render). This part is working fine but when I go to burn them to DVD I run into problems. The very first movie I completed was quite small and "I believe" I said to burn it as an avi file in Sonic MyDVD. It plays fine on the computer and the TV. The next movie I started on is very large. It was around 25Gigs in avi format. Of course this won't fit on a single DVD so I told it to burn in MPEG2 and it won't play on the TV. I am apparently not understanding what to do with the rendered avi movie file and must not be using a program that is readible on the TV set. Could you tell me your procedures after editing and rendering, on how you then proceed to burn it to a DVD (hopefully one), the program you use that will work on the TV, etc., the steps in sequence because I am obviously blowing it somewhere. I really appreciate your help as I am pulling out what little hair I have left.

I have a good HP computer that burns in +R or +RW and a Sony DVD television player that says it will read the + format.
