Trouble exiting out of Vegas

I have a Dell dimension P3 750 running Windows 2000. I have a Matrox RT2000 card installed so to really do any editing and outputting to tape, I have to use Premiere. But I loaded Vegas 5 and DVDA2 as I especially plan on using DVDA now that version 2 is out with so many improvements.

My problem is that the only way to exit out of either Vegas or DVDA is to use the task manager and under the process tab, highlight Vegas exe or DVD exe and "end process". If I just exit out of the programs normally from the desktop, I can't restart the programs and have to do a hard reboot.

I can have multiple instances of either program running and it seems to work fine. I just have to use the task manager to end the process. I can't use the "end task" under the applications tab in the task manager or it locks up the same as the normal exiting of the program...it has to be "end process" under the processes tab.

I obviously have a workaround which seems to get me in and out of the programs but just thought I'd post this to see if anyone else might be having similar issues...and if so, what was the fix. I found an older thread about twain 32.dll problems causing similar troubles and I thought maybe that was it, but I changed out my twain files and it made no difference.
