I am trying to import a video file with ac-3 encoding for the audio. I see the message "Stream attributes could not be determined" in the Explorer window. I have a friend with Vegas Pro 8 who can open the same files without audio problems. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
What kind of video file?
What codecs and wrapper were used?
Download MediaInfo and let us see.
Can you upload an example somewhere?
There is likely a workaround given the information.
I recently had a similar problem (Vegas Pro 8); no solution but a workaround succeeded. Importing 9 clips from 3 mini DVDs (Sony camcorder). The audio was AC3 format. About 3 clips played perfectly in Vegas, the others had no audio info in Properties, and no audio on playing. (Go figure..). Playing the mpeg files in Windows Media Player, Real Player etc - no problem. there WAS audio.
Fortunately I also have TMPGEnc; I loaded all the files and generated mpeg2 files with mpeg layer 2 audio. Vegas was quite happy with this.
