Trouble Importing AVI files - no video shows

jemrys wrote on 5/14/2006, 11:31 AM
When I go to import an AVI file into Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, only the audio appears and it hangs up while trying to render the audio. Is there some sort of AVI or Divx codec that needs to be installed....I know i had it working once before, but I cannot for the life of me remember what I did...or what I installed to make it work. Can anyone help me out?

Did the AVI come from a still camera?
If so, try this tip on jetdv's site:
How do I open AVI files create by still cameras?

No, its a rip from a DVD I think...they are anime episodes that I want to compile my own set of DVDs for so I can play it on my TV.

Try doing a search for a codec information tool. There were some that were named on this forum but I don't remember what they were. All you had to do was drop the file on the codec reader's icon and it would pop up a box telling you exactly what codec was used, so you would know exactly what codec to download to make it work on your system.

OH! Thanks....so I need the exact codec that something was encoded with in order to DECODE it. Makes sense.

I will look for the codec program like you said.

G Spot is probably the analyzer program you want.
