Troubleshooter for Vegas, .veg and .mov (crash, corrupt, unsupported)

Vegas, .veg-files or .MOV-files not opening/crashing/corrupted/unsupported format

I made this topic as I recently had some problems opening .veg files in VegasPro14 build 201 (64bit). It looked like it was corrupt because my Vegas just crashed. This troubleshooter also helps If you have problems adding .mov files or if the .mov files go black after a few minutes or in/after the render process. Or if your vegas just crashes

So here is a troubleshooter. After each step, try opening/rendering the .veg again or try adding the .mov file again

  1. Try force restarting your pc
  2. Install you latest (gpu/video) drivers and vegas version
  3. Try opening the saved .veg file from Vegas itself by going to File > Open...
  4. Disable gpu acceleration in preferences
  5. Hold shift and click preferences in vegas. Now the Internal tab should show up. Search for multi-core and change Enable multi-core rendering for playback from TRUE to FALSE
  6. (optional, might not help: change Disable multi-core rendering from FALSE to TRUE)
  7. Search for a <name>.veg.bak file where your normal (not working) <name>.veg is located. Just rename that <name>.veg.bak to something like <name>2.veg.
  8. Press WinKey+R > Run... > Type 'appdata' > Open 'Local\VEGAS Pro\14.0'. Here you should see all your autosave and restored files. Sort file list on 'latest' and try opening autosave.veg-files, autosave.veg.bak-files (you can rename .veg.bak files to .veg to try them out) and restored.veg.bak-files to see if it works.
  9. Uninstall Quicktime (if installed) and install Quicktime 7.5.0 (old version yes) and install latest version of Avid QuickTime Codecs LE and K-lite Basic. Maybe you we're using .mov files, that causes the problems when opening the .veg file or the .mov in vegas. This was the issue why mine was not opening and gave an error because at 29% it started to load the .mov files, but i didn't had the right quicktime and codecs installed.
