trying to create a nice main menu

I've created a dvd from a home movie (a trip we took in 2000), and it's fine. However, I'd now like to spiff up the main menu screen, and learn while I'm at it. This movie is my first foray into Vegas and DVDA.

I was wondering if it's possible to do something similar to what I've seen in some production dvds, where little mini-clips from the movie fade in at different sections of the screen, but without sharp edges, and the areas are blended together. I think it would help if I made all the clips monochromatic.

Well, I don't know how to convert the movies to gray scale, and then I don't know how to blur them together. I've been able to move show multiple clips on the screen by putting each on a separate track and using pan/crop to crop out just the part I wanted to see, and then used track motion to place that track correct in the overall display (is this the best way to make a collage of videos?)

So, I guess I'm asking:
(a) how do I make a collage of videos (is my approach the best way)?
(b) how do I make the events "blur" together so that the collage isn't a bunch of sharp edges?
(c) if necessary to go grayscale, how do I change an event to grayscale?

Any tips would be really appreciated. Thanks!

You'll want to create a motion menu in Vegas that you can bring into DVDA as background media -

Your collage outline will work - you can take each clip, adjust its size & placement using pan / crop and then use the cookie cutter or masking (in pan / crop) to feather the borders to taste. Can also be done using track motion as well.

Use the Black and White effect and drop the color of your clips - that will get you to black and white -

hope that helps

Nice! Thanks so much! I would have taken forever to find those - I really appreciate it.
