Trying to earn a living

Zelkien69 wrote on 10/2/2014, 12:57 PM
I can't help but to write "Trying to earn a living" every time Vegas crashes and ask me what I was doing at the time.

In the past I'd fill out the box with this step, this media, these filters, but since Vegas 6 I have seen so few answers to my issues in updates it's all I can come up with anymore.

I always check the additional info boxes, but trying to earn a living is the simple truth.

Ah now SCS team will know who it is from :- )

B.t.w.

When your project crashes it is always handy to check your auto save location.
I have made a shortcut to it 'C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\13.0' is the default.

Also saving as v1, v2, v3, incrementally helps to get back to your latest file.

You can then compare the file in the auto save folder vs your last saved file to see which one is the latest saved project before crash. Check by looking at the 'revised date' column in your explorer.

Vegas often auto saves just before crashing.

My Vegas 13 almost doesn't crash. The main reason for it to crash recently is when the auto ripple function is enabled. If I quickly cut-scrub and move an event (in that order) Vegas crashes.
Probably due to Vegas trying to ripple all the events which are near.

Cut-scrub-move crashing has been happening with most Vegas versions.
This has happened with different PC's as well.

Thanks for the tip VMP. This isn't a roast or anything else really. Just what I've been doing for the past year.

It makes me chuckle in lieu of tossing a keyboard.

While I try to imagine your pain, I am one of the lucky ones that doesn't have any issues, I also wonder what where you doing at the time of the crash. There are so many things to look for and some problems are really hidden deep in the details. If you want help, then we need details details details....

Thanks for the response Old Smoke. I have three different systems from 4-core to 6-core I-7's plus a laptop. Lots of third party filters and numerous file formats at any given time. Even the video cards are different (Though the 580GTX I mentioned on here previously for $140 from Microcenter sing!) as well as the audio cards.

It's just the most honest answer I can come up with. Trying to earn a living. I've had multiple copies of Vegas since 6 (I only skipped buying 9 for some reason) and it does work all in all. I guess I just don't take the reporting system in Vegas very serious.

I am with you on this one!

One very common and mostly overlooked source of failure is power supply. Not only the size of your power supply and its quality but also what comes from the grid. Ever since I use an UPS with all my desktops and servers I have not encountered any issues at all. I get only BSODs when I push the OC too far.

Feel your pain, the number one crash culprit by far for me is gpu acceleration....turned off it does not crash very often, 12 is very stable for me with the gpu off... 13 still have not used on a paying gig, but about to try, been doing pretty well while playing around.

Good luck!!

This post could have been written by me a year ago. The number of crashes I suffered with Vegas Pro 11 and 12 were innumerable. I had resorted to similar, less kind, responses in crash reports.
Since then I've done two things - upgraded to Vegas Pro 13 and installed the Radeon HD 7950 in my 3,1 2009 Mac Pro.
I have never been as happy with Vegas as I am now. Virtually crash free, and incredibly fast render times.
Is the OP running Vegas 13?

On my system, I remember since VP12 build 486 / 563, almost never had crashes.

If you have GPU ON, try turn it off when editing.

Power supplies are all 700 watts or more (the 6 core is a 1000w) and we use a CyberPower UPS with Sine Wave conditioning. We tinker with GPU on or off, though it feels like buying a 8 cylinder car and only getting to use 4 cylinders half the time. At this point I don't really see Vegas hitting a stride like they did with Vegas 8. Since then it's been incremental and bugs galore with a side of 3D and 4K to little fan fare.

Just trying to earn a living.

Do you have any problem with GPU ON Rendering process?
If you only have problem during editing, turn off when editing, buat turn it ON during rendering.

Zelkien69 - have you tried installing Vegas 13? you don't mention anywhere in the thread or in your profile what version of Vegas Pro you're using....
