Trying to shrink video and pan it left to right, but there's a limit!

Hey all,

I have a video I'm trying to shrink to 1/3 of it's size and then pan from left to right (starting off screen, then flying past along the top, and exiting right.  But when I shrink the video and try it, Vegas stops it in the Pan/Event window, like there's a limit.

Does anyone have a way around this?

Thanks!

Pan/Crop is dedicated for cropping a frame and panning the cropped window over the given frame, not shrinking and moving a shrinked frame. Better use TrackMotion for this certain task.

Thanks for the reply Marco.  Is TrackMotion a separate plugin?   And maybe I'm confused as I'm not tracking anything- I'm just wanting to do a simple steady motion left to right.

TrackMotion is a core function of Vegas Pro to be found on each of the video track headers. As the name implies it is a track based function, not event based. Maybe they should have named it somewhat like "Mover" as this is not automated tracking.

There is no reason why you can't do that in Pan/Crop. Please post a screen shot of your settings and we can figure out what is causing it to stop. I slide pictures and video off frame with Pan/Crop all of the time.

This should be fairly simple. Here's a small VEG file as an example.

Size of the Pan/Crop canvas is limited to 8 x the size of source media.

I am not sure why that is relevent. He wants to shrink the image.

Yes, that's the point. He wants to shrink, not to crop.

With Pan/Crop if you want to shrink your whole frame you have to widen the Pan/Crop canvas. You won't get your frame smaller than 1/8 of width and height of the source because you won't get the canvas bigger than 8 x of it.

In your video demo you only shrinked to about quarter of the size.

1/8 is smaller than 1/3.He said he wants to shrink it about 1/3.

I can shrink the image to where I can get 9 across and 9 up and down.

Note that the OP only needed a 1/3 of the size -- so pan crop should work for him -- right? No need to take up an entire track and the hassle of tweaking keyframes should he need to move the clip around on the timeline.

Try different way to see what it is. Put an HD clip into the timeline, open Pan/Crop for that event, for position's width and and height (which is the canvas size) type 20000 for both.
You will see Pan/Crop won't accept 20000, but will use a max of 15360 x 8640 for HD media.

Oops, now I missed that point, never mind. ;)

Okay, I tend to skip details sometimes. Have a great day.

DerekHHH, post a screen shot of your settings and we can figure out what is not right.
