turning on VRD-VCX ?

Hello all;
First time here ;
used to be a professional editor on tape machines.
Clicked on the “capture video” icon and I get “the device Sony VRD-VCX could not be opened”.
Any one have any clues as to how to open this device/application that is not listed anywhere in any Sony help manual/page that I can find?
Thanks so much in advance and please PLEASE assume (correctly) that I am a computer idiot, and post each and every step necessary.

Make sure your camera is in "play mode", and you unplug and replug the firewire cable and reboot. See if that works. If not, then make sure your firewire port works correctly.

I assume this is a firewire camera because i could not find anywhere that model on google, You might have misspelled it.

the camera (Borrowed) is a Canon zr300 and the firewire works fine; I have downloaded everything to Pinnacle with no problem, but think that your program is better if I can just get it to work. I will try the advice you gave, and I will try again later when I get my camera (JVC) back.
