Skipdesign wrote on 3/30/2005, 11:42 AM
I just purchased Vegas 5 + DVD and I am new to editing. I live in Orlando and am looking for someone that can tutor me (give me a fast track over view) of the program. I am interested in learning the basics from someone that knows the product well. Please advise. I can be emailed at Skipdesign@aol.com Thanks.

My guess is that you will be on track pretty quickly just by playing with it, but if you are looking for tutorials etc.. there are lot's of 'em. You can go to the VASST.com site Here, and I'm sure that there are lots of people that will chime in with their tutorial sites. I know that one of our guys here Billy Boy has a good basics tutorials site - flash, I'm sure if you did a search on the forum you'd find some too. Welcome to VEGAS dear friend.

The tutorial I'm finding very helpful is here at the Sony store...

This will definitely get you going in the right direction.
Unfortunately it’s not free.

Skipdesign, there are some great training DVDs out there that, IMO, are well worth the money.

When I began in Vegas about 2 years ago I'd spent all my money so had to rely solely on the help files and this forum.

Eventually I purchased some training DVDs and that really helped a great deal.

But you'd be surprised how much you can learn simply by goofing around with the software. Put a few video and audio clips on the timeline and start playing with them. Push various buttons and see what happens. When you discover something neat, start playing with it specifically to see how much you can wring out of it simply by intuition.

Having a mentor, some training DVDs, a good Vegas book, AND lots of time to experiment is ideal. If you don't have all four right now, for sure you've got the time to experiment!

You will find this forum to be an excellent resource, with some really knowledgable people willing to share their tips and tricks.

Still wish I lived in Orlando. Thank the canes for that. It would be nice to have someone in my area to trade tips with and learn from. Ahh, maybe someday soon Ill be back in the warmth and sunshine with the smell of salt water and citrus in the air.

Skip, there might also be a VASSt seminar coming to Orlando this summer. the one last year was Excelent! Keep checking their website from time to time ,Think the last one came around June or July. The DVD's on their site plus the links to others by Gary Kliener and Ed Troxel are great ways to learn at your own pace.
And Most importantly THIS WEBSITE for current and past post's. The search button has answered many a question about both using Vegas and just plain good editing skills.
