Twain support helpful for VHS conversion?

Saw an older post about VHS capture with the Star Tech SVID2USB2 which uses Grabbee capture software.
QUESTION: Will using the similar model SVID2USB23 which adds TWAIN support help me use Movie Studio (Platinum HD 10) instead of the Grabbee?

Would have used my Happauge HVR 1800 but it has part of it's software disabled to only work thru Windows Media Center along with the composite audio/video inputs also being disabled. When I try to capture thru Vegas, I get a Sony window stating ," The device 'Happauge WinTV 885 video capture' could not be opened. Please make sure it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user".

Vegas capture works with IEEE 1394 Firewire connections, and almost nothing else.

Most common routes for ingesting VHS to Vegas capture utility is through a cheap Canon MiniDV camcorder with analog->digital passthrough (which works very well for me), or through a dedicated firewire device such as the Canopus ADVC models (esp. if you need TBC).

When I have large amounts of VHS to capture, I use Scenealyzer because it has a slick interface and workflow. It also requires a firewire input from a camera or standalone device.

If you won't need TBC that the Canopus provides, I see that the Canon ZR80 is really cheap on eBay. It's what I use.

Another route to consider is a Panasonic set-top VHS / DVD combo recorder. Records right to MPEG-2 (VRO) with better quality than DV firewire because it has built-in noise reduction, but it is 4:2:0 rather than 4:1:1 chroma subsampling.

I would guess the TWAIN support is only there to allow still image software to use that video card like a scanner, to capture a single frame as a still image.

I don't think that TWAIN has any use in video.
