Two Improvements Badly Needed in Vegas 7

I have been a huge fan of Sonic Foundry for many years, and love the fact that Vegas has both video AND audio support.

However, as time has gone by, I've noticed less and less audio support, and I'm worried that what is currently a superb product (albeit with some needed features lacking) will fall by the wayside.

I have opened my own Post-Production Film sound recording and mixing facility, and I am very interested in using VEGAS as a program for doing my final mixes.

Unfortunately, there are two features currently lacking in Vegas 6 that are absolutely necessary in my workflow.

1) I have a Yamaha DMS2000 mixer as my control surface. Vegas does not have support for this device. Unfortunately, I cannot just go out and replace the board, because it cost me $20,000.

2) Many many people have been asking for me to export BWF files from Vegas. (with timecode stamps). The import-only BWF just isn't cutting it.

That being said, I love the editing style and capabilities in Vegas. As I'm sure many of you would agree, Vegas' user interface is simply the best out there for audio editing.

I would like to use this product in the "real" film world and show people that it can really do what it needs to do, but I'm worried that the audio half of Vegas is being slowly dropped.

I really really really really really really hope that Vegas 7 will prove me wrong and that the guys in development will read this post and help someone who LOVES their product out.

I totally agree.

When will Vegas get Pro ?

I'd like to add one more function that would be a big help to me: Dolby Digital DE-Coder, to allow playing back the .ac3 files that the Dolby Digital EN-Coder creates quite nicely.

Others have suggested various consumer programs, such as PowerDVD, which does have a file play mode, but why do we have to go out to some consumer level program to check out our .ac3's ? It would be good to have the functionality of Dolby's multi-thousand $ hardware decoder, with indicators etc., within Vegas to play back through same audio channels.

While simple playback of non-DRM compressed content is on our list of features for future versions, anything that is beyond simple import and playback would mostly likely have to license from Dolby.

If Dolby charges $$$$ for it, then they will most likely not permit us to emulate their hardware in software with out a licensing fee.

Would an increase in cost to you be worth it or would a add on package at additional cost still make this a must have?

Peter,

Add-on would be great. I suspect from the few postings about Dolby Digital
5.1 creation, that not many users are into 5.1 audio for DVD's.

Surely the Dolby Digital Pro Encoder that is activated by installation of DVDA cost some licensing $$ ?

Even at $150, a software decoder would be a bargain compared to hardware.

Peter---

Am I to assume from the silence that there are no plans to include BWF support in Vegas 7?

And by support i mean export as well as import? (and recording to?)

Sniiped form other thread ....

Seems like V7 should really be V6.1.

The main thing missing is that should be in any version upgrade is FOLDER TRACKS. Other equiv applications have had this feature for several (?) versions now.

Acid is NOT the answer for Sony audio. Not yet anyway, until Acid gets the same easy logical workflow as Vegas. But even Acid has folder tracks now - WHY NOT VEGAS ?

The other thing (still) missing is project templates. A pain having to have 'blank' projects saved with default starting setups.
