i see a tonne of wedding guys lining up for these.. the biggeest issue wedding guys face is dropouts.. or fear of them... i guess this alleviates that problem.. as for sticking with 1/3 i would say its safe to assume that these models are designed for the longer form work considering theyre still tape based. I like the idea of being compatioble with sony Alpha lenses, but i just forked out over 6k on Canon glass..soooooooooooo...
As an aside, im yet to meet any JVC owner who owns more than 1 lens... and i know alot of them... so how this removable lense will come into play.. who knows..
Personally, i still feel the EX is the bees knees...
these are nice, but i dunno...
any indication of the price of these cameras...the EX1 would be fantastic but its out of my price range especially with the cost of the SXS cards.
I must say the S270E looks fantastic..oh.but at what price i cant wait to see...
I'm loving this range and general fluidity within the camera concept coming out. SONY must have one helluva R&D > Design > R&D > Design workflow army that I bet we are only at the beginning of this NEW journey. They must've devices that at present we can't even DREAM or even CONTEMPLATE.
Now, who's for non-fixed lens affordable 1/2" HD-ers? Hands-up?
I remember reading that, with the PMW-EX1 XDCAM camera, Sony had made a major shift by having their professional/broadcast division, not their consumer division, take the lead on camera design and manufacture for new "prosumer" cameras in the sub-$10000 market segment.
This looks like the latest fruit from that tree. Rumor has it that the price on the handicam will be around $6000 (US), and the lux rating is around 1.5. If so, that's my next camera!
According to this article, the S270U is slated to ship in February for $10,500.
The HVR-Z7U (also shipping in February) lists at $6,850.
And don't forget the deck, a HVR-M35U, for $5,540 .
1.5 lux??? That's like an HD Sony 2100!! And if it lists at $6800, the price is just a bit more than the V1U I just bought.
Dang, there's just no way to lock into a certain technology level at this point, is there? I just need to figure in my pricing for new cameras about every 2 years max.
Edit: I just read more of the article: native 24P and 1080p also??
Not only that, it will give you live 1920x1080 uncompressed out either the HDMI (Z7) or the HD-SDI (Z270) port. Pair it with one of these and you could have a 1920x1080 flash master and two HDV backups.
i had my 400sp for six years, the lens was interchangeable so took out a fair upgrade cost and i had enough time to make money. this is getting ridiculous.... a new model every two years? well i suppose we live in the disposable age....
i am SO happy to see tape back in - documentary (as mentioned above), and for my stringer work - tape will have a life all of it's own...
and finally a deck that will read tc? bob, am i right, or is it just over sdi?
leslie
thanks bob....
another point i wanted to make, before a senior moment happened was:
it's all well and good churning out these superb cameras, be it tape or hd, but at the end of the day, it's a bloody shame we can't deliver the spectacular quality to the average client. maybe slow down producing cameras and speed up affordable blue ray (or hd dvd) player recorders, etc., so we have a clamouring market for hd production!!!
"and finally a deck that will read tc? bob, am i right, or is it just over sdi?"
I'm not certain. My understanding is that the HDV TC issue relates to the recording system itself. I don't use TC much at all so I'm probably not the best person to answer this however I can see a real issue with trying to do batch captures from HDV. You need to read upto 15 frames to get a given frame i.e. you need that "I" frame.
Something someone said to me a long time ago makes me recall that this isn't unique to HDV. Don't remember if it was SX or IMX that posed a similar challenge.
> it's a bloody shame we can't deliver the spectacular quality to the average client. maybe slow down producing cameras and speed up affordable blue ray (or hd dvd) player recorders, etc.
Good point Leslie - it took years to wean some of my clients from VHS to DVD, so I don't realistically expect to be distributing HD for quite a while, even though I've been shooting HDV for almost 3 years now - frustrating, to put it mildly!
Related to the solid state plus tape topic - one question I'm looking forward to answering when mine arrives is - will the EX1 work with a DR60 direct to disc recorder, at least for HDV mode?
